Abstract

The cultural and educational association Gajret used its activities to promote the cultural and educational betterment of the Bosniak population. Its publication, also called Gajret, was an important contribution to Bosniak cultural and educational rebirth. The Gajret magazine contained a wealth of current materials from political, educational, and cultural life. Its themes were drawn heavily from the natural and social sciences and islamic studies, but it also made space, amongst other topics, for the many reports on schools and education that it organized, supported, and con-ducted itself. The magazine gave particular prominence to contributions by leading paedogogues and teachers on themes of education and upbringing and the school system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
