Abstract

The paper aims to present the contribution of Jürgen Habermas in the reaffirmation of religious freedom especially in light of the potential of that freedom which they have in terms of enriching democracy as such. In other words, according to Habermas, the affirmation of religious freedom is not only contributed to the emergence of a democratic state but also a guarantee of its further evolution. One of the basic questions that the paper seeks to answer is the question of the role of religion and religious freedom in the concept of constitution al patriotism. It is a concept which Habermas seeks to overcome, contrary to Rawls’s imaginary original state, tensions that occur between the demands for ideological terms neutral state, on the one hand and moral pluralism, especially the growing influence of religion in social relations and claims that arise from such influence, on the other side.
